Psalm 113:1-8
1 Alleluia. Praise the Lord, children. Praise the name of the Lord. 2 Blessed is the name of the Lord, from this time forward and even forever. 3 From the rising of the sun, even to its setting, praiseworthy is the name of the Lord. 4 The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory is high above the heavens. 5 Who is like the Lord, our God, who dwells on high, 6 and who gazes upon the humble things in heaven and on earth? 7 He lifts up the needy from the ground, and he urges the poor away from filth, 8 so that he may place him with the leaders, with the leaders of his people. Amos 8:4-7 4 Hear this, you who crush the poor and who make those in need of land to do without. 5 You say, "When will the first day of the month be over, so we can sell our wares, and the sabbath, so we can open the grain: in order that we may decrease the measure, and increase the price, and substitute deceitful scales, 6 in order that we may possess the destitute with money, and the poor for a pair of shoes, and may sell even the refuse of the grain?" 7 The Lord has sworn by the arrogance of Jacob: I will not forget, even to the end, all their works.
